Women on the web – survey

Women are responsible for 85% of all brand purchases, 92% of vacation purchases, 93% of food purchases and control $7 billion in annual spending. If you’re an online merchant, ignore them at your peril.

According to Unicast’s “What Women Want From The Web” report, the most popular online pursuits for women this summer are connecting with family and friends (76%), reading news (67%), online shopping and price comparison (64%), entertainment (59%) and researching travel or vacations (48%).

Another interesting result – the number of women who intend on visiting gaming sites came in at 31%.

84% of women who plan to utilize the web for shopping and price comparison also intend to research or book vacations and travel this summer.

In regard to online advertising women take most notice of – sales and coupons ranked highest at 46%, followed compeitions for prizes at 31%.

Online merchants often make the mistake of believing coupon hunters are those on a lower income. However, the Unicast study found women earning $75K+ (55%) were more likely average (46%) to value an advertisement offering a coupon code or discount.

The survey, carried out in late May 2010 polled 1,000 adults in the USA. The report focuses on the results of the 516
female survey takers.
