Survey – the wealthy love coupons too

A recent survey has found that coupons aren’t just loved by the battlers; but by people making big bucks too. After all, how do you think they became rich in the first place?

The Deals.com poll was conducted by MyType and surveyed 8,500 people in August 2010. The survey found People with household incomes exceeding $100,000 per year are roughly two times more likely to be coupon lovers.

So who hates coupons? Well, bear in mind these aren’t my words; this is from the associated press release:

“Those consumers who are neurotic, angry, insecure, careless procrastinators who make less than $50,000 a year do not.”

Wow, that’s rather blunt, huh?

Anyhow, other key findings from the survey

– Those see themselves as extroverts and imaginative are 47% and 25% more likely than others to favor online coupons.

– Women are 67% more likely than men to be coupon lovers.

– Environmentally conscious folks 37% more likely to be coupon aficionados

– Those with a tertiary education are 78% more likely than the non-college educated to be coupon lovers.

– Libertarians are 47% more likely to be online coupon users.

In a nutshell, the green, the rich, the educated, the religious, the lefties and those with a rather high opinion of self are more likely to be coupon lovers .. oh, and parents too (which stands to reason).

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a survey reported in such a way; I don’t know whether to feel amused, informed or to somewhat cringe at how it was all put – it was certainly different and last I checked, April Fool’s day had long passed, so it wasn’t a joke.

Anyway, the survey results are just another confirmation of my rabbiting on about coupons – they are a killer sales tool that can be very cheap to implement. If your shopping cart doesn’t support a coupon feature, it’s time to upgrade or shift to a new shopping cart software or service; particularly with the holiday shopping season just around the corner.
