Revenue blog ranking

Posted by Michael Bloch in web marketing (Tuesday February 20, 2007 )

Pat from ConversionRater.com has released a new blog ratings list for “Web Revenue Blogs”, i.e those blogs whose primary purpose is to help others generate income from their blogs or sites.

I was chuffed to see Taming the Beast.net’s blog on there ranking at number 8 amongst some very distinguished company :). With ego suitably stroked, I was of course very curious at how this ranking was arrived at.

What Pat is doing is compiling data from Technorati, Alexa, Compete, Quantcast, Google PageRank and Yahoo to try and provide a better idea of where a blog sits in a niche based on link quantity, link authority, and actual site traffic.

As Pat points out, the ranking is far from perfect and he’s very open to suggestions for improving the system. He provides some extra notes about why certain sites ranked where they did. For example, in the case of Taming the Beast, Pat states the amount of non-blog content I have on the site came into play; which I’d certainly agree with. My main site has been around since 2000, whereas the blog is a relative newcomer.

Once the ranking is refined, it would be great to see other niches covered too. This type of ranking system is another interesting and useful tool to help bloggers and webmasters get an idea of where they sit among their peers.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Taming the Beast.net dropped off the list in revisions to come as there’s many other excellent revenue tips blogs out there and blogging is somewhat of a sideline for me; but in the meantime, I’ll bask in my 15 minutes of blogging fame :).

  3. You’re welcome, Michael. Hope you can make it. Don’t forget to nominate your blog at Blogger’s Choice Awards.

  4. I won’t be able to make it unfortunately; I’m pretty much deskbound – as for the awards, I think I’ll need to focus a little more on this blog before I start chasing high profile events like Blogger’s Choice – this blog isn’t really “A” list by any stretch of the imagination :). Still, people seem to like my posts, so that’s reward in itself :).
