Dial a domain

You’re out and about and want to call a company, but don’t have the number on your phone – what to do? A new option is domain dialing.

Sure, you could always just visit the company’s site I guess, but a new app for iPhone, iPad and Android based phones could save a bit of precious time hunting around web sites with your phone browser.

Called Siter, it allows you to place a phone call to any domain name registered in the app’s system rather than to a phone number.

Siter says it already has a database of 25 million names registered in its system – quite impressive for such a new service.

The app is free and can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store, or for Android-powered phones, go to While the service costs nothing to use, you will of course be charged the normal price for making a call by your phone company.

If your company’s domain name isn’t yet in Siter’s database, you can add it for free here. After you add the phone numbers associated with your domain, you will just need to authenticate to confirm you’re the owner of the domain. A step-by-step video tutorial is provided.

I’m sure mobs like Yellow Pages are thrilled to hear of such an application.. not. This might be a company destined for Google acquisition perhaps?
