Coupon sharing

Posted by Michael Bloch in web marketing (Saturday January 22, 2011 )

A major coupon site saw a 26.3% increase in traffic during December 2010 and a 27.2% jump in November. The popularity of coupons just keeps on increasing, regardless of economic conditions.

Coupons are no longer just for the battlers or the frugal, for many online shoppers, searching for a coupon before buying something is just a standard practice now.

According to statistics from RetailMeNot, sales resulting from coupons taken from the site during December came to $63 million. That’s quite an impressive figure; bearing in mind there are many, many coupon sites on the web.

A stat I found very interesting was the number of coupons shared by users of the site in December – a whopping 53,494.

This viral/social aspect of using coupons in marketing is something I particularly like – if you have a decent deal, people will tell others – others whom you may not have otherwise reached.

On one of my sites, whenever I post an article with a coupon offer, it usually attracts quite a bit of attention.

Most good shopping cart software applications offer coupon functionality that is easy to set up and administer. If you don’t want to invest too much time into coupon marketing, get an offer up and running, let your subscriber list, Facebook and Twitter followers know and they’ll often do the rest of the work for you. As word gets around, some coupon sites will pick up on it and add the offer to their database – it can be a great way of attracting extra visitors and you only “pay”; i.e., whatever you lose on the discount, when browsers turn to buyers.

Pick up some tips on coupon marketing.
