Affiliate software is a must

I’m continually surprised by the number of merchants who run affiliate programs, but still don’t offer an interface where affiliate partners can log in and view traffic and sales stats updated in real time.

It’s not as though affiliate software is particularly expensive these days – you can pick up decent affiliate management applications for a couple of hundred bucks. It’s a small price to pay compared to the benefits it can bring to not only the affiliate, but the merchant in terms of having better affiliates pulling more sales.

It’s been my experience over the years when comparing merchants promoting the same sort of product, yet with one offering an affiliate interface and the other just monthly reports, the former usually wins hands down in terms of commissions generated.

.. and most experienced affiliates know this.

Merchants who don’t offer a fully functioning interface are shooting themselves in the foot as many good affiliates won’t touch a program if the merchant doesn’t provide access to traffic stats and sales on demand, 24/7.

It’s not just an issue of trust.

A good affiliate tweaks their campaigns on an ongoing basis and they need some guide as to what is working and what isn’t. If an affiliate has to wait for a monthly emailed report, they are basically working blind. It makes their promotion efforts a bit like firing a shotgun in the dark.
