Here’s a new and very easy to implement tool you can add to your site if you’d like your pages to be available in different languages.

The application is along the lines of the very cool social bookmarking service, AddThis - it’s called ConveyThis.

By adding a couple of lines of code to your site, it will generate a button that will translate your website or blog to various languages; giving the user the option of using the major free online translators such as Google, BabelFish, Live Translator, SDL and more. You can see it in action on the left hand side of this page.

The other great feature of this service is the statistics aspect. You’ll get valuable data on the number of people accessing your content, the language pairs most commonly used and the pages that get translated the most.

This information can be very useful in helping you decide whether you should have some of your pages professionally translated for particular audiences.

Bear in mind that while automated translation services are a great addition, at times things get lost in translation so to speak.

An automated translation can read very differently to how you would like the information conveyed and doesn’t take into account cultural issues, jargon, slang etc. .. this can sometimes have hilarious (or embarassing) results.
