Launching popups – the easy way

Posted by Michael Bloch in web development (Thursday February 2, 2006 )

Sick of messing about with lines and lines of code and seperate coding to launch a simple popup window?

Try this simple snippet out, it’s basically just an extension of normal linking code:

<a href="pathto/poppage.htm" target="page" onClick="window.open'','page','toolbar=0,scrollbars=0, location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0, width=400,height=400,left=50,top=50,titlebar=yes')"> Launch popup</a>

Change pathto/poppage.htm to the location of where the page you want to pop up is stored in your file base. Make sure all the code is on a single line, not on multiple lines as above.

You can specify if you want a toolbar, scrollbar, status bar, menu bar etc. by changing the “0” value to “1” and adjust the width and height to suit, and also the positioning on the screen by altering the “left” and “top” value.

Much simpler :)
