After my post on creating web widgets a couple of weeks ago, one of TTB’s readers let me know about a nifty one she created. Perhaps it’s time to start a thread on favorite web widgets? Add yours here.
Jules, a fellow Adelaidean, sent me a link to a neat little widget she made that you can embed on your site with just a couple of lines of code. It will translate the page where it appears into various languages courtesy of Google’s translator engine - here’s how it looks:
You can customize various aspects of the widget display and it will translate English into French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified).
It’s a very nice service you can offer to your non-English speaking visitors, just bear in mind that automated language translation services don’t always get it right (I published an article on translation issues here) - but if perfect translation isn’t a mission critical issue for your business, this may be just what you need! Thanks Jules (and Google)!
Have you created or do you use a web widget that would be useful to other site owners? Post some details about the widget and a link to where others can grab the code in this thread!
