I’m a relative newcomer to formal blogging; although my quasi-blog had been active for a few years. I wish I had moved to the “real deal” format earlier, but eh, (insert variety of excuses here) :). Still, I’ve been pleased to see the number of people visiting the new blog and I encourage your comments – constructive feedback, opinions on pieces I write about or added info on any item is most welcome!

FrontPage Includes for fun & profit

I’m a FrontPage fan, unashamedly so. I feel that FrontPage is often rubbished simply because it’s a Microsoft product. I’ve heard the arguments about added server overhead and crappy code, but really, any extra load on the servers of today is minimal and later versions of FrontPage can produce quite clean code.

I’m still using FrontPage 2000 – why? because it does everything I need it to :). Don’t let anyone tell you that FrontPage is useless when it comes to sites that are over a few dozen pages (more…) bookmarking script

China’s online censorship

*Sigh* – why must the West push its own “values” onto other countries that aren’t yet, and perhaps may never be, ready to accept them.

I’m referring to the issue regarding the major search engines making forays into the Chinese market. Many of us in the West seem to be kicking up a major stink in regards to China forcing these companies to filter out content that they find unsuitable. China should be applauded and encouraged for the concessions they have allowed, not demonized. (more…)

Virus and spam statistics

According to Commtouch, January 2006 was a shocker in relation to spam and viruses, based on their analysis of over 2 billion email messages.

Key findings

– 19 new significant email virus attacks, with four considered to be “massive” attacks

– The average response time by anti-virus companies to release an update was just over 8 hours (more…)

Women online in India

With the online population of India expected to climb to 100 million in the next couple of years; like China, it is a market that none of us can afford to ignore.

A rapidly growing demographic in India are women. According to the Internet And Mobile Association of India, the estimate for male to female ratio in the next 2 years is 60% male and 40% female. In 2004/05 the online population was 72% men and 28% women. (more…)

Search queries grow by 55 percent

According to Nielsen Netratings, the total number of search queries to around 60 search engines in the USA increased 55% from December 2004 compared to December 2005 – thats an increase from 3.3 billion searches to over 5 billion!
