Yahoo strikes back

Posted by Michael Bloch in online world (Thursday January 26, 2006 )

Yesterday, I mentioned that according to a Bloomberg article which quoted a senior Yahoo exec, the company had no designs on eclipsing Google in search.

Well, it seems like that was the opinion of perhaps a minority of Yahoo senior staff. Yahoo has struck back at these comments in their Yahoo! Search Blog.

The post in question is appropriately titled “are you kidding?” and this following statement nicely sums up the search team’s stance:

There’s been a lot of conjecture and confusion today about Yahoo!’s commitment to being the world’s best search engine-talk which anyone who’s been following the evolution of Yahoo! Search would have realized is… just plain wrong

Well, excuse us Yahoo! Maybe you should have a chat to your CFO and let her know too :).

I imagine there was a fair commotion at Yahoo’s offices today :)

Anyway, I was very pleased to hear that they still have their sights on Google. Whether they achieve no.1 spot or not doesn’t matter, the competition will keep Google on their toes. I’ll sleep better tonight with that knowledge :)

As all of us at Yahoo! agree, we’re in it for the long haul, and we’re in it to win.

Kudos to you Yahoo!, up and at ’em!
