IE 8 Beta 1 ready for download

Posted by Michael Bloch in online world (Wednesday March 12, 2008 )

zzzzzz… zzzzz… huh? What’s that? Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 has been released? Last week? How the heck I missed that I have no idea.

I’m reporting this in case you’ve been living under the same rock as me :)

If you’re keen to get your hands on IE 8, here’s the download link; but a word of warning.. Beta on software products can be a little different to the “Beta” tag so many web sites have plastered on them just to sound like they are ultra-hip and Web 2.0’ish.

The “B” in beta stands for bugs – and sometimes lots of them, so I tend to steer clear of those versions; particularly when it comes to important applications I depend on and especially those that can really mess with Windows. I did throw caution to the wind for Internet Explorer 7 since the wait between 6 and 7 had been soooo long. Even then I somehow waited until Beta 2.

Often it’s best to wait until an “RC” version is out before downloading. RC stands for “Release Candidate”. It’s a version of software that’s just about ready for prime time with no major issues. This release of IE is really for web developers but a second beta due this summer will be geared towards Joe Surfer.

If you’re someone that believes discretion is the better part of valor, then you can at least get a peek at what Internet Explorer 8 looks like, peruse the new features and read a brief review.

If you’re one of the brave souls who’s trying it out, I’d be interested in reading your thoughts on it :),

  1. Thanks Michael I am writing from under rock. I will also wait a while and see, but I will certainly look.
