Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 release

Posted by Michael Bloch in online world (Tuesday April 25, 2006 )

Microsoft announced the release Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 a few hours ago. The IE team states that this release is not a preview or an update to the preview, but the real Beta 2 of IE7 – gets confusing doesn’t it :).

It’s available for download from http://www.microsoft.com/ie

For Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, Microsoft is doing something a little unusual – they are offering free phone support to users in North America, Germany and Japan. This step is to encourage people who are usually hesitant about beta software (which includes yours truly) to try IE7 Beta 2. As usual, Australia misses out; but kudos to the IE team for offering this.

Support will be available from 5am this morning (USA PST) and then during the following times:

Monday-Friday 5 am – 9 pm USA PST
Saturday-Sunday 6 am – 3 pm USA PST
IE 7 Beta 2 support number: 1-866-876-4926

The development team states significant improvements have been made and all features are complete, plus substantial compatibility testing has been carried out. The final release of Internet Explorer 7 is due out before the end of the year.

Note: The IE team states that you must uninstall any previous IE7 builds before installing Beta 2.

Like I said, I usually shy away from Beta stuff – can’t really afford for my system to be down.. but this is awfully tempting..hmmmmm.

I’m thinking they must be fairly confident in the stability of the application if they are willing to have phone support; but perhaps this support has been outsourced to low-labor cost countries :) – good luck to the IE 7 Beta 2 support team over the coming days!
