Google on caffeine

Posted by Michael Bloch in online world (Wednesday August 12, 2009 )

The wraps have been pulled off Google’s secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google’s web search, codenamed Caffeine.

And here it is.. drum roll…

Maybe the drum roll was uncalled for huh?

It’s not much to look at in that it appears to be no different in terms of interface. It’s incredibly quick, however Adwords not appearing would play a role in that. There is a difference in the results; so if this is the future of Google, then it’s certainly something to watch as it develops.

The company is also asking for feedback on the differences between Google’s current search results and Caffeine, including any trends noticed in particular types of sites ranking well or worse, and glitches such as sites ranking for a query they really shouldn’t.

To send feedback, after running a search, click the the bottom of the page that says “Dissatisfied? Help us improve.” Provide your feedback in the form but be sure to include the word “caffeine” somewhere. You won’t get a response, but Google assures us they’ll read any feedback provided.

By the way, if you want to see language or country specific results, the process is a little clunky; but here’s the type of query you’ll need to run:

where hl=language and gl=country.
