Free, earth friendly email service

Posted by Michael Bloch in online world (Monday April 17, 2006 )

As some of you know, I’m the Business Operations Manager of ThinkHost, Inc – a progressive principles based web hosting service powered by 100% renewable energy. I try to keep TTB and TH separate mostly, but we’ve just launched a project that I’d like to mention.

The project is CommunityMail.net; and like ThinkHost’s hosting services (and consequently Taming the Beast.net), it’s also powered by renewable energy. CommunityMail.net offers *free* email services that are also more environmentally friendly to the planet than its counterparts :).

The service is geared to I guess what you’d call the “alternate” or “green” market; people who are acutely aware of where the planet is at, what it’s currently heading towards and what we need to do to try and avoid some really bad things from happening to it – global warming etc.. every little bit counts.

The damage may already be done, but we can all do things to try and minimize further destruction such as using recycled and renewable energy based products and services. That extends into the online world too.

We have a few domains that you can choose from, and no doubt we’ll be adding some more as time goes on:

@communitymail.net
@activist.cc
@hippiemail.com
@globaluprising.com

The service is only a few days old, so if you’d like to join this green email service, I suggest you sign up as soon as possible to ensure you get your choice of eamail address.

Learn more about CommunityMail.net

Some of the features:

– user-friendly interface (much like Outlook)
– user controlled spam filters
– anti-virus protection
– encryption features
– green living ezine
– powered by green energy (wind and solar sources)
– no banner ads

If it’s not for you, but you have a hippie in your midst, be sure to let them know about it ;).

Even if you’d just like to check out the software that powers the services to provide some feedback, that’s fine and would be appreciated – you can leave your comments in this thread.

By the way, if you’d like a coupon code to try out ThinkHost’s services free of charge for a couple of months, post in this thread and I’ll get one to you. Don’t email me for it, you need to leave a comment here – even something as simple as “hell yeah, I’d like a coupon for free green hosting!” ;).

Promoting the fact that your site is powered by renewable energy can be yet another feather in your marketing cap – customers are curious about the whole renewable energy issue and we receive a lot of positive feedback about the initiatives that ThinkHost, and as a result, Taming the Beast.net, has taken.
