Posted by Michael Bloch in online world (Friday April 6, 2007 )

David Sifry, founder and CEO of Technorati, has published his latest blog statistics fest, expanding from the usual “State of the Blogosphere” reports into “State of the Live web”, covering social media including blogs video, photos, audio and more.

Key findings:

– Technorati is currently tracking over 70 million weblogs

– 120,000 new blogs being created globally every day (1.4 blogs a second)

– After a spike of 11.4k of splogs (spam blogs) created per day in December, that number has tapered off to 6.3k

– The blogosphere is currently doubling every 320 days

– Blog posting rates are slowing in growth to around 17 posts per second

– Blog posts in Japanese are most common at 37% (up by 4%) followed by English at 36% (down 3%)

– 35% of all posts Technorati tracks use tags

I had no idea blogging was so huge in Japan :).
