The YouTube story

What goes from 0 to 1,650,000,000 in under 24 months? I think most of us know the answer to that one now; it’s YouTube. But how did all this happen?

I find the YouTube story rather fascinating, so I’ve just published an article on the somewhat speedy evolution of this online giant. Many entrepreneurs build applications dreaming that someday they will be bought by a major company at an incredible price; but I don’t know of any who would even dare to dream of such a high figure in such a short space of time. I’m guessing that even the YouTube guys didn’t even set such a lofty goal.

My advice to the YouTube founders regarding what they should do with their Google stocks – sell them. now. A run of luck this good has to end sometime; don’t push it. Buy that island you’ve always wanted, get that fleet of Corvettes you’ve been hankering after :).

Good luck to ’em – their achievement has been nothing short of stellar; although the success does present some ethical dilemmas that need to be considered before any of us ordinary folk try and emulate YouTube’s model.

Read YouTube – an online success story.
