Nope, nothing to do with the environment.
We have Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States and more recently, Cyber Monday was added to the ecommerce calendar – which is the the first Monday after Black Friday. Now we have Green Monday, which was last week.
Green Monday was coined by eBay to signify the second Monday in December as the biggest online spending day of the holiday season. It seems that before the middle of this month many tech-savvy consumers are still bargain hunting and comparison shopping; preparing to pounce in force on Green Monday.
According to ComScore, December 10 reached $881 million in online sales – a massive 33 percent up on last year and setting (another) record as the biggest online spending day in history. The next heaviest spending day was Tuesday, December 11 at $818.6 million.
Over $20 billion has been spent online during the holiday shopping season so far (from November 1) which is a 19-percent gain on 2006.
I hope the electronic cash registers have been ringing up nicely for you all and that you are managing to retain your sanity during this insane time of the year :).
