Click fraud costing $1 billion p.a.

According to information in a recent article on Business Week, click fraud could account for up to 20% of all PPC traffic and be costing advertisers up to $1 billion per year.

I read a couple of very interesting articles today on Generation X – my generation. It seems that it’s a generation label that is highly disputed in terms of the time span it includes, but it appears there’s general agreement that it at the very least covers those born between the years of 1965 and 1979.

Email ransom – time for RSS

AOL has announced that they are commencing to charge companies to send commercial email to AOL users under a certified email program. They’ve touted this as a means to control spam.. hrm; I don’t think so. Sounds like a massive revenue raiser to me.

Supposedly, the charge will be $2 to $3 per 1,000 messages. AOL says the difference between sending the pay for play email messages and standard email will be that it bypasses their filters. All sounds fairly innocent, unless (more…)

According to a recent viral marketing survey of over 1,000 adults by Sharpe Partners, an overwhelming number of adult American Internet users forward on content via email – 89%.

Among the key findings:

Affiliate managers beware

A recent action by the FTC against a group of adult site operators is sending chills down the spine of many companies that operate affiliate programs.

According to the FTC complaint, under the CAN-SPAM Act, the site operators were liable for the spamming carried out by an affiliate. The settlement for the 4 parties involved came to over $600,000. (more…)
