MSNSearch ran a search and win competition a while back and judging by their lacklustre performance in terms of market share, it doesn’t seem it was such a raging success. Other companies are now tapping into the “search to win” concept and given their different focus, perhaps they’ll have better luck.

Where would we be without smileys? No doubt many email and other forms of text communications would be misunderstood. After all, writing “you’re an idiot :)” has a different meaning to writing “you’re an idiot” - the latter leaves you hanging as to whether the author meant it literally.

Pump and dump spam crackdown

I first wrote about pump and dump stock spam scams around a year ago. Since that time I haven’t seen much of a let up on these sorts of spam emails; so I was thinking it must be still profitable for the perpetrators. According to the SEC, it certainly is.
